About the Project
This website has been prepared for a planning application to An Bord Pleánala for planning permission to construct the grid connection for a renewable energy development in the townland of Clonberne, and adjacent townlands, Co. Galway. The proposed development is being brought forward in repsonse to local, national, regional and European policy regarding Ireland's transistion to a low carbon economy, associated climate change policy objectives and to reduce Ireland's dependence on imported fossil fuels for the production of electricity.
The proposed grid connection will comprise a permanent substation which will consit of a 220kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) building an Independent Power Producer (IPP) compound, a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and all associated infrastructure and works. The proposal meets the threshold for wind energy set out in the Seventh Schedule of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended, on foot of a notice issued by An Bord Pleánala (the Board) and is therefore being submitted directly to the Board as a Strategic Infrastructure Development (SID) in accordance with Section 182E of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended.
An Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) and Natura Impact Statement (NIS) have been prepared in relation to the proposal and accompanying the planning application for the proposed development submitted to the Board.
